Matthew "Matt" Sheridan Cardle, 35, was born April 15, 1983 and is an English singer, songwriter and musician.

Matt shot to fame when he won the X Factor beating third-placed One Direction in the 2010 series, which also featured runner-up Rebecca Ferguson and Cher Lloyd.

But after debut album Letters, he parted company with Sony claiming his management were too busy with 1D.

After a spell in rehab battling an addiction to prescription drugs, he reinvented himself on the stage and won the Best West End Debut award for his role beside Beverley Knight in Memphis in 2015.

What has Matt said about drug addiction?

On March 12, 2018, Matt revealed to The Sun that he was addicted to a cocktail of drugs and a functioning alcoholic.

He told us he was “eating” a daily mix of prescription pills Valium and Tramadol and snorting illegal drugs.

In a revealing and dramatic interview Matt, who is now clean, told us: “I got lucky on a number of occasions not to have been found f****** cold.”

On May 6, 2018, he revealed he ‘downed pills and whiskey on the way to rehab’ before he got the help to relaunch his music career.
