JEPPSON'S Malört, a traditional wormwood-based digestif, is not for the faint of heart.

For decades, the drink has been a rite of passage for Chicagoans – and the city's unsuspecting visitors.

How can I buy Malörtsgiving?

On Wednesday, November 1, Jeppson's Malört announced their new seasonal offering, Malörtsgiving, via social media.

The brand claims: "This shot will transport you to a Thanksgiving feast, all while maintaining our infamous Malört flavor."

The new flavor is only available for purchase at CH Bar and Table, located inside the CH Distillery, in Chicago.

Individuals can sample a shot of Malörtsgiving for $8, or purchase a bottle for $150 throughout November.

Fans of the traditional beverage were quick to ask whether the holiday offering was vegan.

The brand confirmed on Instagram that since the beverage contains actual turkey bouillon, it is not suitable for individuals with a plant-based diet.

The traditional Malört has an extremely bitter taste for those bold enough to sample the digestif, with notes of grapefruit and gasoline.

What is Malört?

First introduced in the 1930s, Jeppson's Malört is a brand of bäsk liqueur.

Malört is the Swedish word for wormwood, which is a key ingredient in the boozy beverage.

The controversial drink is named after Carl Jeppson, a Swedish immigrant who first distilled and popularized the liquor in Chicago.

Tremaine Atkinson, founder of CH Distillery, told the Chicago Tribune that drinking Malört is like: "taking a bite out of a grapefruit and then drinking a shot of gasoline."

He added: "I love everything about it. I hate everything about it. It’s such a great iconic Chicago thing."

Despite its controversial reputation, Malört is considered a staple in Chicago dive bars and liquor stores.

A shot of Malört is often paired with an Old Style beer, dubbed the Chicago Handshake.
