A SCHOOLGIRL was brutally battered by a mob of teenagers armed with weapons while 200 kids watched on.
Shania Greenall has been left with black eyes, a deep cut on her head and a swollen face after the large group targeted her and three friends with fireworks and a ratchet in Leeds.
The 15-year-old was trying to protect a friend from a group of 20 near the grounds of Bishop Young Church of England Academy on Wednesday.
Shania’s aunt Yvonne Mayne was the first person to see her following the attack and she was horrified by her injuries.
“Her face was just swollen all over,” said Yvonne, also from Leeds.
“It is disgusting what they have done. All she was trying to do is protect a friend who was being bullied by these girls. They were not expected to be so many but I was told there were around 200 there.
"The boys and girls all started attacking four 15-year-old girls, hitting with weapons and there were even boys setting fireworks off at them.
“Shania thinks one them was hitting her with a ratchet. It is just so dangerous. It could have been so much worse. Their behaviour is vile. The girls were not expecting so many people to be around and they know they should not have gone but what happened to them is disgusting.
"They should not be allowed to get away with it.”
The shocking violence only stopped when a woman who lives nearby came out and dispersed the group.
She took two of the girls into her home until arrangements could be made for them to be collected but her other two friends got split up during the attack.
Shania had to have her head glued following a shot with a weapon, believed to be a ratchet.
She also suffered a black eye, lumps and bruises all over her head, arms and shoulders and has scratch marks on her back. Shania’s friends were also not seriously injured.

Bishop Young Church of England Academy say none of their students have been identified as being involved in the incident by police.
Paul Cooper, from the school, said: “I have been made aware of an incident at around 7pm on Wednesday. This is not a school issue as the incident took place on a public highway.
“It is a police matter and we have had no information from them that any of our students has been involved. We will work with police should we need to.”
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “An incident has been reported on Wednesday 18 October at 8.08pm involving the assault of a 15-year-old girl.
“Police are due to speak with the girl and her family.
“Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the police via 101 quoting crime reference number 13170488050.”
